Hidden Lake in Antarctica. Russia Seeks Underwater Civilization

The Russians are going to explain one of the greatest mysteries that has ridden lately. They have only drilled 50 meters before reaching the Vostok, the strange lake in the world.

What’s so special about the lake?
Covered by 4 km of ice, Vostok is isolated from the rest of the world millions of years through a real ice seal. It is estimated that it would be 15 million years of isolation. But not all experts are in agreement with the Vostok drilling because they believe this will damage the ecosystem, they say

Lake Vostok is under the Russian. At this station was recorded and the coldest temperature on Earth, -89 degrees Celsius on July 21, 1983. Sub-glacial lakes are rare in the world and only 150 were found in Antarctica.

Drilling were able to reach up to 3,600 meters, but when there were only 130 meters from the source, in 1998, the project was stopped, as questions arose about possible contamination of the lake. Excavations started in again in 2001, with new methods, ecology, because ultimately, the goal is to be kept throughout the ecosystem.
Besides the discovery of micro-organisms, new research could make them water scientists to better understand glacial conditions on one of the moons of Jupiter, Europa.
