I have expanded my brains to learn on different skills and topics as I have always believed in the principle of constant learning and experimenting. The day where you stop learning is the day you decay. I love nothing more than to keep my brains (and sometimes limbs) stimulated and to me,...

The Fresh Air Interview: Jay-Z 'Decoded' : NPR
In his new book, "Decoded," Jay-Z offers his story as an example of the story of his generation, explaining the tough choices they faced at a violent and chaotic time. "Decoded" also tells the stories behind 36 of Jay-Z's songs. He holds the record for the most number one albums by a solo artist on the Billboard 200. His recording with Alicia Keys, "Empire State of Mind," from his 2009 album "Blueprint 3," has become something of a New York anthem.
Billy Joel - And So It Goes: lyrics and video
Billy-Joel-and-so-it-goes
Music Lyrics
And So It Goes Lyrics
In every heart there is a room
A sanctuary safe and strong
To heal the wounds from lovers past
Until a new one comes along
I spoke to you in cautious tones
You answered me with no pretense
And still I feel I said too much
My silence is my self defense
And every time I've held a rose
It seems I only felt the thorns
And so it goes, and so it goes
And so will you soon I suppose
But if my silence made you leave
Then that would be my worst mistake
So I will share this room with you
And you can have this heart to break
And this is why my eyes are closed
It's just as well for all I've seen
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows
So I would choose to be with you
That's if the choice were mine to make
But you can make decisions too
And you can have this heart to break
And so it goes, and so it goes
And you're the only one who knows

NPR Fires Juan Williams over Anti-Muslim Remarks - CBS News
"I mean, look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country," he said. "But when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they're identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."

What is the Bill of Rights?
The first ten amendments of the United States constitution are more commonly referred to as the “Bill of Rights,” because they set out specific rights of American citizens in order to ensure that those rights are not infringed. The Bill of Rights is modeled on many other similar documents, all of which owe their inception to the Magna Carta, the bill of rights written in England in 1215 CE. The Bill of Rights is considered to be an important part of the Constitution, and is also an integral part of popular culture; most Americans, for example, know what someone means when he or she “pleads the fifth,” a reference to the fifth amendment, which protects people from self recrimination.

1. Preparing For Lows
A teacher prep program should explicitly raise this issue with the trainees. It’s normal for rookies to have gut-wrenching lows. Precisely how will they deal with these?
One aspect of this is learning to vent in a healthy way — so you get it out, but it doesn’t consume you or harden you. The other aspect is stress management (sleep, exercise). It’s one reason we purposefully have our trainees experience a hard, stressful year — the same reason that the military makes its training pretty tough — to prepare you for an even tougher following year as a rookie.
2. Seeking Out Coaching
In sports, it’s common for athletes to seek out extra coaching. It’s normal self-interest. I want to get better. So I ask someone to watch me and give me feedback. Sometimes I even pay for it (private lessons). Other times it’s free.
In teaching, it’s uncommon for rookies to seek out feedback. That is bad. Here’s what we’d want rookies to think:

About the film: Jamaica for Sale
Though the Caribbean receives only about five percent of the global tourist trade, it is the region most economically dependent on tourism. This narrow dependence on the highly volatile tourist industry is increasing as the region’s traditional agricultural exports fail, and as the small scale economies of the Caribbean get further mired down in debt, while being unable to compete with the massive engines of globalization - North America, the European Union, China, India and Brazil.

The Young Writers Project is an independent Vermont 501(c)3 nonprofit that engages students to write, helps them improve their writing skills and finds audiences for their work. It works with students in grades K-12 in Vermont and the greater Lebanon, N.H., area.
Writing skills are essential for success in school and in the workplace. Studies show that students with strong writing skills learn more and, in the workplace, are more apt to be hired or promoted. YWP believes that providing an audience for student writing motivates young writers to try harder, learn more and write better. Receiving objective, positive feedback from peers or external readers helps them gain confidence and grow. Giving feedback to others improves students' critical thinking skills and their ability to revise their own work more successfully.
NEED | Seventy five percent of high school graduates cannot write proficiently, yet the ability to write is key to success in business, community affairs and life. • Schools do not spend enough time with writing. • Students learn to dislike writing.
CORE BELIEFS | Students can learn to write well • The Web is a comfortable place for students to write • The prospect of being published motivates students to try harder, learn more and write better • Receiving objective, positive feedback helps young writers gain confidence and grow; giving feedback improves critical thinking • Students at risk need special attention • Young people want voice.

Kiva - Loans that change lives
Kiva (www.kiva.com) is one of today’s most important social responsibility Web sites. This site opens the doors of learning and gives students the opportunity to make a small but meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Through this site, your class can join others in making small loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries who are trying to make better lives for themselves and their families. These loans are repaid over time as students are kept up to date on the successes and struggles of those to whom they have invested contributions.
You might consider pulling together a team that searches out investments the class finds important and relates to their current studies. They might organize snack sales or penny drives while educating other classes about their mission. This team then works with the research team to investigate what is happening in these other parts of the world. They might work with the collaboration coordinators to find experts whom they can talk to about how loans work.
The learning cycle can go on and on as loans are repaid and reinvested. Your students can be tracking the results of their micro-investments long after the school year has ended.
